Ao Plaay Laem is located on the southwest coastline of Koh Phangan at the base of Khao Hin Nok. Khao Hin Nok is a monolithic granite mountain that towers over the area and provides fantastic panoramic views of the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park.
The bay is fairly shallow preceding the reef that lies about 80 metres away, and swimming conditions are best in high tidal season (November to April).
Over the reef there are corals and marine life for snorkeling enthusiasts and a few resorts hire kayaks so you can paddle around the huge boulders in the sea.
Ao Plaay Laem can be reached by road and then path from Thong Sala. If you wish to reach Ao Plaay Laem via hired boat, check in Thong Sala for availability.
If you want to strap on the tanks for a dive or don snorkeling equipment at Ao Plaay Laem, there is an absolutely beautiful coral reef formation some eighty meters offshore. The bay surrounding Ao Plaay Laem is shallow, so if you wish to take a dip, the best times would be between the months of November and April. If you want to swim near Ao Plaay Laem in the remaining months, you should schedule your swims to coincide with the high tide at Ao Plaay Laem. If you feel like kayaking, Ao Plaay Laem is a great place to slalom around the giant boulders that dot the bay. You can hire kayaks by the hour quite easily from just about any one of the multiple resorts in the area of Ao Plaay Laem. Whether you are inclined to laze on the beach reading your favorite book or feel like trekking about the verdant jungles surrounding Khao Hin Nok, you are certain to be able to satisfy your holiday desires. So make Ao Plaay Laem your stop for white sand pleasure while in Koh Phangan!
